GREEN FINANCE

As the Western Balkans are heading towards a greener future, understanding the financial landscape, available funding programmes, and the essential literacy in sustainable finance become critical factors. The Western Balkans economies shall be enabled to articulate needs relating to the implementation of the Green Agenda in the programming of the Instrument for Pre-Accession (IPA) III.

The EU4Green project, acknowledging these challenges, proposes strategies and tools to better equip the Western Balkans for this transformation. The path forward lies in creating a common language for sustainable finance, enhancing understanding of available funding programmes, and engaging local financial institutions in the green transition.

EU4Green will provide training on the comprehension and usage of green finance to the public and private sectors of the six Western Balkan economies. This initiative aims to create a common language of sustainable finance, empowering stakeholders to improve access to financing and mobilize additional funds for implementing the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.

The project will develop user-friendly overviews of available funding instruments, enhance the knowledge base, and facilitate the usage of existing platforms or tools.

EU4Green emphasizes the importance of engaging the local financial sector, raising awareness of climate-related risks, and promoting strategies to mitigate these risks. These efforts will shift the focus towards greener projects and mobilize private funding.

Finally, engagement with local national and central banks is crucial to align national regulations with the EU Sustainable Finance regulatory framework.
