Situated in Southeast Europe, Kosovo* is home to approximately 1.8 million people with a diverse ethnic composition. Kosovo*’s terrain is defined by mountainous and hilly features, making it a hub for varied ecosystems.
As a candidate for EU accession, it continues to align its policies with the European Union standards. In October 2021, Kosovo* endorsed the action plan for the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, which aims at contributing to the sustainable socio-economic development and the green recovery of the region after the pandemic.

* This designation is without prejudice to positions on status, and it is in line with UNSCR 1244 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo declaration of independence.
