CIRCULAR ECONOMY

In 2020, the six economies of the Western Balkans committed themselves to paving the way towards a sustainable circular economy, as part of implementing the Green Agenda. To bring the concept of circular economy to life, each economy defined its actions to meet local needs.

EU4Green supports these ongoing initiatives in selected areas. In Albania, the focus is on the local level, where municipal staff will be familiarized with practical circular economy measures. In Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Kosovo* the business sector will be engaged through the promotion of circular economy and new business models, respectively. Waste prevention is at the top of the agenda for EU4Green activities in two economies: North Macedonia will be developing a waste prevention plan for public institutions and Serbia is working on a national waste prevention plan. In Montenegro, EU4Green will support the development of a circular economy action plan, which should bring the existing roadmap to life.

Furthermore, the EU4Green project assesses the transferability of these local initiatives across the Western Balkan economies, thereby fostering the exchange of best practices aimed at creating a sustainable circular economy.
