A delegation of environmental experts from the Western Balkans visited the Environment Agency Austria (Umweltbundesamt) as part of the EU4Green project to improve air quality monitoring in the region. During the three-day study visit, experts from ministries, institutes, and national environmental agencies engaged with their Austrian counterparts in practical sessions at modern calibration laboratories and intercomparison facilities. The focus was on advanced techniques for monitoring harmful pollutants such as ozone and nitrogen dioxide, crucial for reducing air pollution.
The visit provided participants with valuable skills and insights, particularly in air quality calibration methods, which are essential for accurate, reliable data to protect public health and the environment. The exchange of experiences between experts from the Western Balkans and Austria highlighted the importance of collaboration in tackling regional air pollution challenges.
As a result, participants are now set to apply the knowledge gained to enhance air quality monitoring and develop national reference laboratories, ultimately contributing to more effective pollution control and healthier air in the region.
