The EU4Green project has published two important studies providing a comprehensive overview of the current state of climate change adaptation in agriculture across the Western Balkans. Covering Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia, these studies offer valuable insights into the socio-economic context, natural resources (soil and water), and crop and livestock sectors at both the national and regional levels.
The findings are presented in two volumes:
Volume I: Cross-Country Synthesis Report – A comparative analysis across Western Balkan economies, highlighting key trends, challenges, and policy gaps.
Volume II: Economies’ Reports – A detailed assessment of each economy, focusing on country-specific developments and adaptation efforts.
A Regional Effort Towards Climate-Resilient Agriculture
This study marks the first joint effort of the Regional Expert Advisory Working Group on Climate Change Adaptation in Agriculture (CCAA), initiated by the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG). It establishes a strong foundation for further regional cooperation and policy actions, aimed at enhancing agricultural resilience to climate change.
By gathering knowledge from approximately 50 regional experts, this research serves as a key resource for policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders in the agricultural sector. It offers strategic recommendations for advancing adaptation measures and strengthening climate resilience across the region.
Next Steps & Continued Collaboration
The CCAA Expert Group continues its work as a regional Task Force on Climate Change Adaptation in Agriculture (CCAA) under the coordination of SWG, ensuring that the findings and recommendations contribute to ongoing efforts within EU4Green and beyond.
While the study compiles insights from experts at the time of publication, the recommendations are based on the best available data and do not represent the official position of beneficiaries or any administrative unit.
These reports are now available and can serve as a valuable resource for shaping future agricultural policies and climate adaptation strategies in the Western Balkans.
