Six New EU4Green Biodiversity Project Summaries Now Available

EU4Green has published six new project summaries documenting the activities, methodology, and results of EU4Green Biodiversity, implemented between 2022 and 2025 across six pilot sites in the Western Balkans.

All six summaries follow the same methodology and structure, covering three core areas of work: an analysis of ecological connectivity, the mapping of Natura 2000 species and habitats, and the identification of Nature-based Solutions. Each report also includes site-specific case studies, spatial analyses, and capacity-building activities carried out in cooperation with national institutions and regional stakeholders.

The six pilot sites are: Kovilj-Petrovaradin marsh in Serbia, a Ramsar site and Important Bird Area along the Danube; Una River National Park in Bosnia and Herzegovina, known for its karstic river ecosystems; Skadar Lake National Park in Montenegro, one of the largest lakes in the Balkans; Mavrovo National Park in North Macedonia, home to the Radika river canyon and the rare Balkan lynx; Korab-Koritnik Nature Park in Albania, part of a trilateral protected area network with 27 natural habitat types; and Bjeshkët e Nemuna National Park in Kosovo, part of the Accursed Mountains network with over 1,000 plant species.

Among the findings, the Serbian report identified ecological connectivity towards Fruška Gora National Park and pressures from invasive alien species as two of several key results.
