The most inspiring green stories of the region are now on display in Belgrade! At the European House, the EU4Green photo exhibition “The Greenest Examples of the Western Balkans” has been officially opened, showcasing how amateur photographers capture the relationship between people and nature across the region.

The exhibition features 15 photo stories from the Western Balkans and is part of the European Green Diplomacy Week. Through their work, amateur photographers highlight the strength of local initiatives, the beauty of nature, as well as the environmental challenges the region faces.

At the opening ceremony, the award was presented to the competition winner, Marko Dimić from Serbia. His work portrays the beauty of Labudovo okno—a protected area within the Deliblato Sands along the Danube—while also drawing attention to the threat posed by waste that endangers this habitat.

The award includes a study visit to Austria, where Marko will be hosted by the Environment Agency Austria, one of Europe’s most respected environmental institutions.

The exhibition was officially opened by Plamena Halačeva, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, and Stefanie Müller, Deputy Ambassador of Austria.
“This exhibition is more than a collection of beautiful photographs. It is a reminder that change begins with each of us. Every story captured here reflects dedication, creativity, and the courage to protect nature and improve the environment we live in,” said Halačeva. She added that these works show that the green transition is not abstract, but something that happens every day in our communities.

Stefanie Müller emphasized Austria’s strong commitment to implementing the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.
“Environmental protection is not only a policy priority, but also a shared responsibility that requires coordinated action across the region. Environmental challenges do not recognize borders, and only through joint efforts can we make progress,” Müller stated.

“I hope these photographs inspire someone, spark an idea about how we can change and grow awareness collectively—so that our country is beautiful not only in words but in actions, clean and well-kept,” said Dimić.

After being showcased in Podgorica, Tirana, Pristina, and Skopje, the exhibition will be on display in Belgrade until 24 November, before concluding its regional tour in Sarajevo. EU4Green continues to strengthen regional cooperation and promote sustainable development through art and visual storytelling that raise awareness about environmental protection.

The photo exhibition is organized by the EU4Green project, funded by the European Union and the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) through International Partnerships Austria, and implemented by the Environment Agency Austria.
