New Brochure Published: Measures for Sustainable Water Use in Agriculture on the Field

EU4Green is pleased to announce the publication of the brochure “Measures for Sustainable Water Use in Agriculture on the Field”, now available online here.
The brochure offers practical guidance for farmers and advisors across the six Western Balkan economies, highlighting measures that can reduce water consumption, retain soil moisture, and improve irrigation efficiency. Topics include agroforestry, crop rotation, mulching, catch and cover crops, organic fertilization, and efficient irrigation techniques – all designed to increase farm resilience and support climate change adaptation.
The brochure was presented for the first time at the Regional Conference on Nature-based Solutions and Sustainable Water Use in Agriculture, held in Podgorica on 23–24 September 2025. The event gathered institutions, experts, and practitioners from across the region for two days of exchange on best practices and innovative approaches.
Apart from expert presentations and extensive practical work-group exercises, speeches and opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Christian Steiner, Ambassador of Austria to Montenegro, Bernard Brunet, Head of Cooperation, EU Delegation to Montenegro and Laura Hohoff, EU4Green Project Leader.
Over the course of the conference, participants explored global standards for nature-based solutions, sustainable grazing, farm water management, crop selection under climate change, and EU4Green’s new handbooks on sustainable practices.
This new publication is a step forward in providing farmers with concrete tools to secure their livelihoods while protecting natural resources. By implementing these measures, farms across the six Western Balkan economies can become more resilient, sustainable, and better prepared for the challenges of climate change. To increase its useability for practitioners it is available besides English in the local languages.
