Accreditation of Emissions Trading System Verification

The first in a series of workshops on Accreditation of Emissions Trading System Verification in Tirana, with follow-up online sessions on 9 and 17 October.

The workshop brought together representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, the National Environment Agency, the General Directorate of Accreditation (DPA) and Tirana University to deepen their understanding of the installation level MRVA (monitoring, reporting, verification, and accreditation) and prepare for Albania’s next steps in aligning with the EU climate acquis.

Key discussions included:

• Carbon pricing in Albania: European and legal context
• ETS roles and responsibilities, MRVA cycle, and accreditation processes
• Timeline and requirements for verification and accreditation
• Practical exercises on the accreditation cycle and verifier’s tasks

With contributions from EU4Green experts, the training provided practical insights to strengthen Albania’s capacity for greenhouse gas MRVA in line with the EU ETS Directive.
